Long Grove, IL (December 14, 2025) – A construction worker suffered serious and possibly critical injuries after being thrown from the bed of a construction truck during a collision on Old McHenry Road near Prairie Wind Road.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. on December 11 as roadway construction workers were retrieving equipment along Old McHenry Road. Authorities said a Ford F-350 pickup truck traveling northbound struck a parked construction vehicle that was positioned on the east side of the roadway.
At the time of the impact, a 42-year-old male construction worker was standing in the bed of the construction vehicle. The force of the collision caused the worker to be thrown from the truck and onto the ground. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported the injured worker to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in serious to possibly critical condition.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
Our thoughts are with the injured person, and we hope he makes a full recovery.
Construction Zone Crashes in Lake County
Crashes involving construction vehicles and roadway workers are among the most dangerous traffic incidents in Lake County and across Illinois. Areas like Old McHenry Road, which often experience both local commuter traffic and nighttime construction activity, can become especially hazardous when visibility is reduced, and drivers fail to adjust their speed or attention.
Being thrown from a vehicle dramatically increases the likelihood of severe injuries. Victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal trauma, internal bleeding, fractures, and other life-threatening conditions. Even with prompt medical treatment, recovery can be long and uncertain, often requiring extended hospitalization, rehabilitation, and ongoing care.
Investigations into construction-zone crashes typically involve analyzing vehicle damage, roadway layout, lighting conditions, driver behavior, and whether proper safety protocols were followed. Specialized crash reconstruction teams may examine skid marks, impact angles, and event data recorders to determine exactly how the collision occurred. Establishing fault is critical, particularly when a worker sustains catastrophic injuries.
For injured workers and their families, the aftermath of such a crash can be overwhelming. Medical expenses, lost income, long-term disability, and emotional distress often follow serious construction-zone accidents. In some cases, multiple insurance policies or responsible parties may be involved, adding complexity to the claims process.
A truck accident lawyer experienced in Lake County work-zone and commercial vehicle accidents can help injured victims understand their legal options, preserve vital evidence, and handle communications with insurance carriers. Legal representation may assist in pursuing compensation for medical bills, lost wages, future care needs, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the crash.
